Thinking of running away?
If you have or are thinking of running away you should know there is a lot of support out there for you. If it’s because you are being bullied or are not happy at home there are people who can help.
The first thing to remember is that there are people who understand how you feel. Over 100,000 children run away from home each year so you are not alone in how you feel. You should always try to talk to someone first. Talk to friends, family and trusted adults about what is happening to you and how you feel. There may even be a charity or voluntary organisation you can talk to
Running away will put you at more risk, you must always try to avoid it.
There is a special runaway helpline on 0808 800 7070, they offer a great service on the telephone and a website. They will be able to answer question on letting your family know you are safe and help on lots of other worries you may have. There are help lines you can use to get anonymous advice from:
- Childline is on 0800 1111 and is always a good one to contact; or
- you can visit a children’s centre who will be able to advise you. Click on the link for a list of centres.
What ever you are experiencing or feeling there is someone who can help and talking is always the first step to getting that help for you and your family.
If you are a child in care you should always talk to your social worker or their manager and if you need some independent advice you can contact Voice, an organisation specially for you, on 0808 800 5792. They can visit you and listen to your worries.
Finally if you are being abused or neglected you should always call the police who have a duty to protect you.
