Supported Lodgings

Supported Lodgings provides family based support to young people who cannot live with their own families and who are not yet ready for independent living. The Supported Lodgings scheme is provided by the YMCA North Staffs (a local charity) in Stoke-on-Trent. Within the scheme, a young person is provided with a room of their own in a host’s home. The young person is a member of the household but not a member of the family. At least one adult in the house is trained to provide practical and emotional support to assist a young person in developing the confidence and capability to live an independent adult life.

Anyone can become a host and households can be made up of a single person or a family group. Hosts are not expected to give up work or significantly change their lifestyle. They need patience, energy, a caring nurturing nature and a sense of humour. The hosts are paid a weekly allowance.”
